Tuesday 5th March 2013

Well this is it, last day in the UK!

Woke up to a very fresh but sunny morning at Grandma's.  Kids already up having breakfast early stuck in front of the goggle box, making the most of their last few hours at Grandma's house.  Paul had however, decided to re-arrange the already crammed Citroen Picasso 1.6. Roof box and boot maxed out, even had stuff in all footwells, obviouysly not the drivers though. Well it kept him and the kids busy for a bit.  But Paul was determined to leave the main cabin area empty for comfort,  ever seen the Guiness records of how many people you can get into a mini,  well not quite the same, but you get my drift.  However, the penultimate test for this little car was soon to come!  (Why oh why did we sell the Audi!!!).

Paul drove, as I was too emotional and grasping and snivelling into many tissues.  But we made good time for Portsmouth and the children were now very excited.  We were the last to get on the rear of the boat and so were still get our things together when the engines roared and the ramp was coming up behind us.

At the last minute we decided to get a cabin instead of using the reserved reclining chairs, not just for more comfort and ease, also for the peace and quite of the other passengers - you know what Aston can be like!!  The very kind Receptionist considerately placed us inbetween two empty cabins - I wonder who sent the carrier pigeon!

The Brittany Ferry Pont Aven was quite a nice boat, plenty of restaurants, and outdoor space to watch the horizon beyond.  However, going to Spain my brain was in Ingles o Espanol mode, and all the staff were French, obviously being a French Company Duh!  But I, trying to be clever,  got mixed up a couple, actually it was numerous times, and used all three in one sentence.

Anyway, back to the boat, yes lots of space to lose the kids in, no I didn't say that, I mean't for the kids to enjoy, cinema, indoor pool - although out of season.  And a play area with kids cartoons, here the children made friends with Harry, and a little Scottish girl called Scarlet with gorgeous red hair and a lovely strong accent - who in the next few hours preceeded to tell us all about her family, even the unmarried ones, and why they were moving to Tenerife and who with............... - all at 100mph!  So sweet.

The cabins were great, 4 birth was 2 bunkbeds on either side.  The topbunks you pulled down from the ceiling.  Now I have never been in a bunkbed they didn't have any side bars so weren't suitable for kids.  Uuh ooh.  Paul was alright as some of his childhood when he was in Nigeria at Boarding School the dormitories were bunkbeds, however, not my cup of tea. There was a good sized shower, W.C. and basin which was convenient with the kids.
